CII has estimated that the food processing sector has the potential of attracting US $33 billion of investment in next 10 years and generates employment of 9 million people today.
India lacks the availability of suitable infrastructure in the shape of cold chain,value added country,modern packaging country due to which there is a wastage of farm produce.
Govt.of india has come out with a mega food park schema aiming at providing a mechanism to link agriculture production to the market by bringing together farmers,processors and returns less so as to ensure maximizing value addition minimizing value addition minimizing wastage,increasing farmer's income and creating employment opportunities particularly in rural sector.
The mega food park schema is based on cluster approach and envisages a well-defines agri/horticultural-processing zone containing state of the art processing facilities with support infrastructure and well-established supply chain.
